Statement on the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons and the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy

I oppose the possession and use of nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons bring immeasurable destruction and suffering to humanity, and the magnitude of this threat is evident from the experiences of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I call upon the international community to further strengthen efforts toward nuclear disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation, and to continue working toward the realization of a world free of nuclear weapons.

At the same time, provided that strict international inspections and sufficient transparency are ensured, I do not believe that the peaceful use of nuclear energy should be categorically denied. Nuclear technology can contribute to human welfare and development in areas such as electricity generation, medicine, and scientific research.

Therefore, countries pursuing the peaceful use of nuclear energy should sincerely accept inspections and verification conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency and make every effort to ensure transparency in accordance with the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. The trust of the international community can only be built and maintained through the continuous demonstration that nuclear activities are limited exclusively to peaceful purposes.

I call upon the Government of Iran, the Government of the United States, and all members of the international community to respect both the goal of nuclear disarmament and the legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Dialogue, transparency, and international cooperation must remain the foundation for achieving lasting peace and security.

I support a balanced approach that seeks both the abolition of nuclear weapons and the responsible peaceful use of nuclear technology, and I call for the realization of sustainable peace through dialogue and international cooperation.
